AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE OFFENDERS COMMITTED TO THE CUSTODY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS TO PLACE PHONE CALLS WITH A PREPAID TELEPHONE CARD; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any provision of law to the contrary, any offender committed to the custody of the Department of Corrections may place long distance phone calls with a prepaid telephone card purchased by the offender from any long distance telephone company.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 1997.
