Senator Hewes is also a former National Chairman of the American Legislative Exchange Council, and Chairman of the Gulf States Marine Fishers Commission. As a delegate of the American Council of Young Political Leaders, Council of State Governments Toll Fellow, and Chair of ALEC'S International Relations Committee, he has represented Mississippi on the national and international stage. An outdoor enthusiast and avid musician, Senator Hewes is a charter member of the Mississippi Legislative Sportsman’s Caucus and was recently appointed to the Mississippi Blues Commission. In his capacity as President Pro Tempore of the Mississippi Senate, Billy is charged with providing leadership in the development and implementation of policy measures, as well as the operational functioning of the senate. As a businessman, Hewes is an insurance agent and real estate broker with his family agency in Gulfport. Senator Hewes was born October 27, 1961 in New Iberia, Louisiana and is married to the former Paula Morton.
