A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2025 BROOKHAVEN HIGH SCHOOL PANTHERS FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH DARIEN DORSEY FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST CLASS 5A STATE TITLE SINCE 2004.
WHEREAS, the Brookhaven High School Panthers won the 2025 MHSAA Class 5A Football State Championship defeating West Point 31-19 on December 4, 2025, under first-year coach Darien Dorsey at Mississippi State's stadium, marking their first state title since 2004, and ending West Point's hopes for a three-peat; and
WHEREAS, the Panthers overcame a deficit and four fumbles in the first half, dominating the second half for their second-ever championship; and
WHEREAS, Brookhaven scored 21 unanswered points in the third quarter to defeat West Point 31–19. West Point opened the scoring on a 57-yard touchdown pass and extended the lead to 12–0 midway through the second. Brookhaven got on the board with a 24-yard field goal by Isaac Iles at 4:46 of the second quarter, then cut the deficit to 12–10 on a 51-yard touchdown run by Jaden Allen with 2:10 remaining in the half; and
WHEREAS, Brookhaven took control in the third quarter. Allen hit Dreamus Harron for a 57-yard touchdown at 9:51, narrowing the margin to 19–17. Caiden Quarles followed with a 19-yard touchdown run at the 4:01 mark to put Brookhaven ahead. Jeremy Bibbs extended the lead to 31–19 with a 24-yard interception return for a touchdown with 2:26 left in the third.; and
WHEREAS, Brookhaven finished with 318 total yards, including 210 rushing yards. Quarles led the Panthers with 138 yards on 21 carries. Harron had 57 receiving yards on his touchdown catch. Hampton Smith led Brookhaven defensively with 20 tackles, while Damarvion Haughton recorded seven tackles for West Point; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student-athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2025 Brookhaven High School Panthers Football Team and Head Coach Darien Dorsey for winning their first Class 5A State Title since 2004 and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for continued state championships.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Darien Dorsey for the team, forwarded to Brookhaven High School Principal Shonique McLaurin and the Brookhaven High School Board of Trustees, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
