Senate Resolution 117

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2024-2025 RIDGELAND HIGH SCHOOL TITANS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH TERRON MCINTYRE FOR WINNING THE SCHOOL'S FIRST MHSAA CLASS 6A BOYS TITLE IN PROGRAM HISTORY.

WHEREAS, Ridgeland High School Boys Basketball Team claimed the MHSAA Class 6A State Championship with a score of 79-53 over Olive Branch at the Mississippi Coliseum on March 1, 2025. The Titans (30-4) won their first boys title in program history and did it with a convincing victory over defending Champion Olive Branch (24-6), whom they lost to last season in the Class 6A final; and

WHEREAS, "It's been a long season," said Phil Nelson, the MHSAA Mr. 6A Basketball winner. "It's Ridgeland's first gold ball, and I'm just excited to be a part of it." Nelson helped carry the Titans with 26 points and eight rebounds. He recalled the pain of being so close and losing in last season's final. "After we lost last year, there was a lot of emotion"; and

WHEREAS, Ridgeland Coach Terron McIntyre shared the same feelings as Nelson. The whole season was dedicated to getting back to the Coliseum and finally finishing the job. One of Coach McIntyre's main goals was to help Ridgeland finish strong in games. The Titans led at halftime in last season's final but struggled in the second half. This season had a new result. Ridgeland was up 30-24 at halftime and outscored Olive Branch 49-29 in the second half. "We learned we have got to finish," the six-year coach said; and

WHEREAS, Ridgeland's Ashton Manuel was second in scoring with 20 points, and Khameron Snow and Marquise Williams both had 10; and

WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 Ridgeland High School Boys Basketball Team Roster: Jabari Farris, Josiah Bogan, Josiah Davidson, Shemar Craig, Ashton Manuel, Eddie Bennett, Kaleb Holmes, Marquise Williams, Kodi Hobbs, Makhi Owens, Phil Nelson, Samuel Bender, Khameron Snow, Caden Perry, Brandon Andrews and Kamariyon Jones; and Coach Terron McIntyre; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their team, their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2024-2025 Ridgeland High School Titans Boys Basketball Team and Coach Terron McIntyre for winning the school's first MHSAA Class 6A boys title in program history, and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future championships.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Terron McIntyre for the team, forwarded to Ridgeland Principal Crystal Chase and the Madison County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
