Senate Resolution 90

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL RIVER CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL BLUE DEVIL CHEERLEADING TEAM AND COACH LIZ MCDONALD AND ASSISTANT COACH TASHA MORRIS AS THE 2024 AND 2025 UCA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING CHAMPIONS.

WHEREAS, we join the students, faculty, parents and sponsors of the Pearl River Central High School in honoring the Blue Devil Cheerleading Team and Coach Liz McDonald and Assistant Coach Tasha Morris for their National Titles and as the 2024 and 2025 UCA National High School Cheerleading Champions; and

WHEREAS, the Pearl River Central Cheer Team came home with some major hardware this month. On February 6, 2025, the Pearl River Central High School Cheerleaders traveled to Orlando, Florida, to compete in the UCA National Cheerleading Competition. Their division (Varsity Coed Nontumbling Division 2 Game Day) was a new national division last year, and the Blue Devil cheerleaders in that division won, and went back this year to defend that title. When they arrived, they began intense preparation with two-a-day practices. On February 9 at 8:40 p.m., they competed in the semi-finals and later learned at 11:00 p.m. that they had advanced to the finals with the first-place spot. The next morning, February 10 at 10:43 a.m., they competed in the final competition. The team competed against 22 teams in the semi-finals and went into the finals in first place against 11 teams and won. After 2 hours, they took the mat at the awards ceremony and defended their title as back-to-back National Champions in their division; and

WHEREAS, under the guidance of Pearl River Central High School Cheerleading Coach, Liz McDonald, the team has won several championships, including the 2022 MHSAA 6th State Champions and now the 2024 and 2025 UCA National Championship; and

WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 Blue Devil Cheerleading roster is: Addyson Messa, Alina Lee, Aubrey Martin, Bella Penland, Bella Steelman, Brooke Colgan (Co-Captain), Brylee Murphy, Caitlyn Cruz, Cammie Bounds, Collyn Adams, Coy Trahan, Dessie Alexander, Elizabeth Silvio, Gabby Moore, Kaylee Posey, Kensley Morrison, Kyndal Osborne, Lanie Theady, McKenna Hayes, Morgan Pearson, Olivia Cardona, Piper Bauer, Reagan Walther, Remie Lewis, Rylee Quarterman, Skylea Martone, and Zoey Rojas (Captain); and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of energetic student athletes who have retained the National Title for Pearl River Central for another year and who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl River Central High School Blue Devil Cheerleading Team and Coach Liz McDonald and Assistant Coach Tasha Morris as 2024 and 2025 UCA National High School Cheerleading Champions and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future championships.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Liz McDonald and Assistant Coach Tasha Morris for the team, forwarded to Pearl River Central Principal Dr. Robert Zegarelli and the Pearl River County Board of Education and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
