A RESOLUTION EXTENDING THE RECOGNITION OF THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE TO THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA MEMBERS OF THE "COCA COLA 2024 OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY TEAM" ON THE OCCASION OF THE SENATOR DAVID JORDAN TORCH PRESENTATION CEREMONY.

WHEREAS, we join the citizens of Mississippi in recognizing three Mississippi youths, their Team Captains and corporate sponsors, as they present an Official 2024 Olympic Torch to Senator David Jordan representing our state's participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics; and

WHEREAS, on behalf of the Mississippi Senate, Senator David Jordan will be presented with an Official 2024 Olympic Torch on the floor of the Senate that was earned by three Mississippi Delta youths for their accomplishments in the World Wide Contest sponsored by Coca Cola Global. Coca Cola is a worldwide partner of the Olympic Movement and a presenting partner of the Olympic Torch Relay; and

WHEREAS, the rewards came to them by the way of a 12,000 mile journey, throughout 206 nations on five continents associated with 10,000 retail grocers worldwide. Their rewards included an Official 2024 Olympic Torch along with other Olympic keepsake memorabilia to later find a permanent home with their accolades in their hometown of Greenwood, Mississippi, in the Mississippi Delta. The rewards also include proceeds to be donated to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Mississippi in their honor; and

WHEREAS, this recognition goes beyond the Mississippi Delta. This worldly accolade was truly achieved for the entire State of Mississippi and now the three torch recipients: Jeremy Jordan, Megan Goss and LeDereck Norals, and Team Captains, Charles E. McCoy, Sr., and Roger "Derrick" Simpson, Sr., along with Clark Beverage Company and Houchens Food Group are sharing with the State of Mississippi in the passing of the Official 2024 Olympic Torch to the Honorable Senator David Jordan and District 24 and the Mississippi State Senate on the Senate floor on February 26, 2025, in honor of the many years of service Senator Jordan has given to the State of Mississippi. This Worldly Accolade is a piece of Senator Jordan's legacy and a historic moment for the State Senate and the State of Mississippi. There would be no better place to start this statewide journey of the Olympic Torch Tour than with the leaders of our beautiful state; and

WHEREAS, the torch recipients will embark on an Olympic Torch Tour that will take them to all corners of the state to share everything the Olympic Torch symbolizes with the entire State of Mississippi by bringing a worldwide symbol of unity and peace to their communities; and

WHEREAS, the participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Torch Tour exemplifies the values and the spirit of unity and inspiration the Olympics strives to foster. We pray that the message that this team will share in 2024-2025 will impact each Mississippian on the Journey of the 2024 Olympic Torch in our state; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we commend these best and brightest young Mississippi citizens who have brought honor to their families, their community and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby extend the recognition of the Mississippi Senate to the Mississippi Delta members of the "Coca Cola 2024 Olympic Torch Tour Team" on the occasion of the Senator David Jordan Torch Presentation Ceremony, and our best wishes as they go on the Olympic Torch Tour.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Senator David Jordan and the Mississippi 2024 Olympic Torch Tour Team, forwarded to Derrick Simpson of Houchens Food Group and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
