A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE HANCOCK HIGH SCHOOL LADY HAWKS GIRLS GOLF TEAM AND COACH CHIP BOURG FOR WINNING BACK-TO-BACK MHSAA CLASS 6A GIRLS GOLF STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
WHEREAS, the Hancock High School Lady Hawks Girls Golf Team won the 2024 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A Girls Golf State Championship held on the weekend of October 22, 2024, which is the team's second consecutive State Championship; and
WHEREAS, the team scored 153 in Round 1 and 146 in Round 2 for an overall total of 299 in the Championship Round to lead the field of ten teams; and
WHEREAS, the Hawks have been on a tear in the last few years, winning three out of the last five 6A state titles, and the ones they have not won, they have been the runners-up; and
WHEREAS, "I know these girls are going to succeed in the future. They can't help it, that's just who they are," said Hancock Girls Golf Coach Charles Bourg; and
WHEREAS, for senior and William Carey signee Kenley Archer it's all about the daily work. "Just every day for hours, just that dedication," Archer said. "Even when you don't want to be out here, coming out here to just get a little bit better"; and
WHEREAS, the 2024 Lady Hawks Golf Team includes: Kenley Archer, Addison Russell, Karstyn Altese, Kaylee Mays, Mary Taylor McAlpin and Ava Merwin; and Coach Chip Bourg; and
WHEREAS, it is with pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Hancock High School Lady Hawks Girls Golf Team and Coach Chip Bourg for winning the 2024 MHSAA Class 6A Girls Golf State Championship for back-to-back State Titles and extend to the team, coach, parents and sponsors our best wishes for success in future seasons.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Chip Bourg, forwarded to Hancock High School Principal Elizabeth Butler and the Hancock County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
