A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE CHOCTAW COUNTY CHARGERS FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH DILLON MITCHELL FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST MHSAA CLASS 3A CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, Choctaw County is the MHSAA Class 3A Football Champion.  The Chargers (14-1) defeated Noxubee County (11-3) 34-27 on December 5, 2024, at Southern Mississippi's M.M. Roberts Stadium.  It's Choctaw County's first State Championship in program history.  Choctaw County Head Football Coach Dillon Mitchell has spent just three years being a head football coach and is in his second season with the Chargers and has his team playing for a Class 3A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, Choctaw County High School 2024 Championship football season highlights:

     ·  Choctaw County High School established in 2013 by consolidating Ackerman High School and Weir High School;

     ·  Mississippi High School Activities Association, Class 3A;

     ·  First season in new, state-of-the-art Charger Stadium;

     ·  First State Championship;

     ·  First North Half Championship;

     ·  Most wins in school history;

     ·  14-1 Overall Record;

     ·  Most points scored in a season for the team (610);

     ·  Average scoring 40 points per game;

     ·  Only allowed average of 16 points per game;

     ·  Had running clock in 9 of 15 games;

     ·  Had over 5,000 yards of total offense;

     ·  Quarterback KJ Cork set a single season passing record for CCHS with 2,225 yards;

     ·  KJ Cork threw 21 touchdown passes;

     ·  Jeramiah Miller led the team in scoring with 28 touchdowns and was the rushing leader with 2,095 yards on 196 attempts (average 10.7 yards/carry);

     ·  Leading receiver was Caleb Cunningham with 42 receptions for 877 yards and 13 touchdowns;

     ·  Linebacker Elmar Gladney led the team in tackles with 62 tackles and 25 assists;

     ·  Defensive back Quaysie Lane and Linebacker Elmar Gladney tied for number of interceptions with 3 each;

     ·  Defeated Winona and East Webster twice in season;

     ·  Won State Championship by defeating Noxubee County 34-27 at M.M. Roberts Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi on December 5, 2024.  The Chargers defense made a solid stand on 4th down of the championship game with 1:45 seconds left in the 4th quarter to seal the win with Linebacker Elmar Gladney bringing pressure and Chevez Sellers breaking up a Noxubee County pass.  The game ended 34-27 on a Jack Hood walk-off punt; and

     WHEREAS, the 2024 Choctaw County High School Championship Varsity Football Roster:  Cam Potts, Tayshawn King, Caden Yarbrough, Caleb Cunningham, Chancen Mosley, Jayvion Lowery, Savarion Miller, KJ Cork, Quaysie Lane, Quayvion Lowery, Zaylen Patton, Elmar Gladney, Jackson Hood, Kareem Mosely, Erion Rogers, Jalain Robinson, Isaiah Miller, Kam Pratt, Brennon Telano, Mathew Coleman, Nehemiah Mitchell, Chevez Sellers, Aston Lilley, Donovan Eiland, Jeramiah Miller, Caden Herklotz, Zhioukevis Jackson, Cortez Dotson, Daterious McNeal, TJ Pratt, Isaiah Maxwell, Jerry Lenard, Ethan Sanders, Cameron Grays, Kiptyn Johnson, James Ashford, Wesley McNutt, Tucker King, Maury Hayes, Ben'Jarvius Shumaker, Duntre Wraggs, Vez Holman, Tyler Sanders, Peyton Thomas, Tank Arterberry, Bradye Duett, Darrell Halbert, Jordyn Ashford, Jordan Smith, Vonqua Lane, Marvin Fleming, Hunter Holland, Chance Miller, Chris Shell, Kaden Cork, Treson Meaders, Jacob Harris, and Jalon Crawford; Head Coach Dillon Mitchell, and Assistant Coaches:  Mustaffa Ibrahim, Bobby Woodard, Trey Gant, Jamario Winters, Shane Talley, Hayden Hulett, Brent Tellano, and King Freeman; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Choctaw County Chargers Football Team and Coach Dillon Mitchell for winning their first MHSAA Class 3A Championship, and extend the best wishes of the Legislature to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Dillon Mitchell and Choctaw County Principal James Catchot, forwarded to the Choctaw County Board of Education and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
