A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND PUBLIC SERVICE OF MRS. ALISON LESLIE FLINT AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS SENIOR ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE ELEVENTH CIRCUIT COURT DISTRICT OF MISSISSIPPI.
WHEREAS, it is with immense gratitude and highest regard that the Mississippi House of Representatives recognizes the outstanding legal career and unwavering commitment to justice of Mrs. Alison Leslie Flint, upon her February 2025 retirement after more than 25 years of public service, including nearly 24 years as Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Eleventh Circuit Court District of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, a native daughter of the Mississippi Delta, born on October 21, 1972, in Greenville and raised in Hollandale, Mrs. Flint is the eldest child of Mr. Ernie and Mrs. Doris Flint, and a devoted sister to Greg Flint, Hilary Bustamante, Megan Flint and Austin Flint; and
WHEREAS, a scholar from the start, Mrs. Flint graduated from the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science in 1991, completed her postsecondary matriculation at Millsaps College in 1995, where she earned a bachelor of science degree in sociology with honors, and thereafter obtained her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1998, and admitted to the Mississippi Bar that same year; and
WHEREAS, she began her legal career as a law clerk and staff attorney to the Honorable Elzy Smith, Senior Circuit Judge of the Eleventh Circuit Court District, from 1998 to 2000, and briefly practiced in the private sector with Copeland, Cook, Taylor and Bush in Ridgeland before returning to the Delta and accepting her role with the Office of the District Attorney in 2001; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Flint faithfully served the citizens of the Eleventh Circuit Court District, comprising Bolivar, Coahoma, Quitman and Tunica Counties, by demonstrating legal expertise, courtroom excellence and a resolute commitment to the fair and impartial administration of justice; and
WHEREAS, throughout her prosecutorial career, Mrs. Flint developed specialized expertise in handling sensitive cases, receiving professional training in forensic child interviews and completing the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) certification course, thereby providing compassionate yet formidable advocacy on behalf of vulnerable victims; and
WHEREAS, respected by her colleagues and community alike, Mrs. Flint's sharp intellect, keen legal mind and wit, tempered always by humility and kindness, have left a permanent impression on the culture and legacy of the District Attorney's Office; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Flint is a faithful and active member of Cleveland First United Methodist Church, where she has worshiped for 18 years and served on the Board of Trustees for three years; and
WHEREAS, a devoted wife to Mr. John Paul Gates, whom she married on December 18, 2004, and the proud mother of one beloved daughter, Amelia Grace Gates, whose lives are reflections of her love, strength and integrity, Mrs. Flint remains a woman of many talents and interests, through the enjoyment of reading, writing, traveling and knitting, and now looks forward to pursuing these passions more adamantly in her well-earned retirement; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend exemplary Mississippians such as Mrs. Alison Leslie Flint, whose decades of service have strengthened the integrity of our criminal justice system and enriched the lives of the citizens she so honorably served:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the dedicated and distinguished legal career of Mrs. Alison Leslie Flint, congratulate her upon the occasion of her retirement as Senior Assistant District Attorney for the Eleventh Circuit Court District of Mississippi, and extend sincerest wishes for continued fulfillment and happiness in the years ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Alison Leslie Flint and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
