House Resolution 47

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MR. DEWAYNE MAGEE UPON BEING NAMED THE 2024 MISSISSIPPI TRUCK DRIVER OF THE YEAR, EXPRESSING GRATITUDE FOR HIS HARD WORK AND COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND EXTENDING SINCERE WISHES FOR CONTINUED SUCCESS IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Dewayne Magee, a resident of Summit, Mississippi, and an employee of Walmart Distribution of Brookhaven, Mississippi, has been awarded the distinct honor of being named Mississippi's Truck Driver of the Year for 2024; and

     WHEREAS, this honor reflects the hard work and dedication required from all transportation professionals and Mr. Magee has demonstrated that he represents the very best of his profession; and

     WHEREAS, the truck driving profession requires a significant emphasis on both productivity and safety, skill sets that Mr. Magee has evidenced and shown a strong commitment to both in his 30 years of driving, having driven over 3.5 million accident-free miles in the span of his career; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to Mr. Magee's outstanding professional career, he further distinguishes himself with volunteer service with Wreaths Across America where over 2.7 million wreaths are placed on the head stones of fallen heroes in over 3,700 locations across the country, cooks at Mississippi Veterans homes around the state, volunteers at Pathways 2 Possibilities events around the state teaching students about opportunities in transportation, logistics and warehousing; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Magee maintains active involvement in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Share the Road program, as a leader with Walmart's heart program, which helps children and adults with severe health challenges, as well as serving on the lead team for Walmart's Disaster Relief Team, which supplied over 150,000 meals in 2024; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Magee exemplifies the image of the true driving professional with his commitment to public safety, his commitment to helping those in need and with a steadfast commitment to bettering his community and the State of Mississippi as a whole; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize fine Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Magee who represents both true professionalism and a commitment to bettering the motoring public's safety by leading his profession forward:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Dewayne Magee upon being named the 2024 Mississippi Truck Driver of the Year, express gratitude for his hard work and commitment to safety and extend sincere wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Dewayne Magee and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
