A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HONORING THE DISTINGUISHED CAREER AND LAUDABLY ESTEEMED PUBLIC SERVICE OF MR. CHARLES R. GUY, AND EXPRESSING SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HIS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the lifetime achievements and invaluable service of Mr. Charles R. Guy, a devoted educator, mentor and community leader who has dedicated his career to shaping the academic and personal success of students and citizens throughout the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, born on October 28, 1943, in Walthall County, Mississippi, Mr. Guy was instilled with a strong work ethic by his parents, Mr. Milus and Mrs. Eva Faulk Guy, with his mother serving as an elementary school educator for 40 years; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Guy's academic journey began in Mississippi's rural school system, and through perseverance and commitment to excellence, he earned a bachelor of science degree in history and sociology from Alcorn State University in 1965, followed by a master's and specialist degree in educational administration from the University of Southern Mississippi, and ultimately, a doctorate in christian education and theology from Lift Bible Crusade College and Seminary; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Guy's professional career commenced in 1965 as a social studies teacher and coach at Mixon Junior High School in Hinds County, where he inspired students both academically and athletically before continuing his journey in education in Harrison County and at Grinnell College in Iowa, where he served as an admissions counselor and athletic recruiter; and

     WHEREAS, his return to Mississippi led to a storied tenure in the Gulfport and Biloxi public school systems, where he held positions as a teacher, administrative assistant, assistant principal and principal, notably serving as Principal of Nichols Junior High School and the Gulfport Continuing Learning Center, where he fostered environments of academic excellence and student rehabilitation; and

     WHEREAS, beyond the classroom, Mr. Guy has been a stalwart leader in his community, contributing to numerous professional and civic organizations, including:  the National Education Association, Mississippi Association of Educators, Gulf Coast Board of Directors for Boys and Girls Clubs, National Association of Secondary Principals, Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce, Harrison County Business Industry and Education Planning Committee, Gulf Coast Chamber Education Committee, Gulf Coast Chamber Tourism Committee, Alcorn National Alumni Association, Alcorn 1000 Scholarship Fund, the MLK Wild Food Festival of Ocean Springs, Jackson County NAACP and the Jackson County NAACP Economic Development Committee, in addition to his continued service as an instructor at Lift Bible Crusade College and Seminary; and

     WHEREAS, a man of unwavering faith, Mr. Guy has been a pillar in Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, where he serves as a deacon, Bible teacher and member of multiple church ministries, using his spiritual wisdom to guide and uplift those around him; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Guy has demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to educational excellence, youth mentorship and civic engagement, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of countless individuals, and it is both fitting and proper that he be recognized for his extraordinary contributions; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to honor those individuals of Mr. Guy's caliber who, through their unwavering dedication and service, leave an indelible mark on our state and inspire future generations to uphold the principles of integrity, leadership and public service:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby honor the distinguished career and laudably esteemed public service of Mr. Charles R. Guy, commend his enduring legacy of dedication and leadership, and extend heartfelt gratitude for his immeasurable impact on the State of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Charles R. Guy and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
