A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING JACELYN "JAYCIE" COLLINS ON BEING SELECTED AS THE 2024 STATE GAMES OF MISSISSIPPI FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR AND ALSO THE 2024 NATIONAL CONGRESS OF STATE GAMES ADULT ATHLETE OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Jacelyn "Jaycie" Collins, of Meridian, Mississippi, is the 2024 State Games of Mississippi Female Athlete of the Year and also the 2024 National Congress of State Games Adult Athlete of the Year; and

WHEREAS, a gold-medal swimmer who wins in many events and a State Games of Mississippi participant for two years, Jaycie took home five gold medals in 2023 and 2024 in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly and individual medley; and

WHEREAS, Jaycie is an athlete with Down Syndrome, and according to her, "I am short, I have limited arm span, my legs are not terribly long but I love to swim and have learned to use what God created to win in swimming"; and

WHEREAS, outside of State Games, Jaycie participates in the Mississippi Special Olympics, and she was a Mississippi Swim Team Delegate to the National Special Olympics in Seattle, Washington, in 2018 and a Mississippi Swim Team Delegate to the National Special Olympics in Orlando, Florida, in 2022; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Jacelyn "Jaycie" Collins, whose hard work and zealous dedication to swimming and the State Games have brought honor to the Meridian community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Jacelyn "Jaycie" Collins on being selected as the 2024 State Games of Mississippi Female Athlete of the Year and also the 2024 National Congress of State Games Adult Athlete of the Year, and extend best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Jaycie Collins and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
