A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF OFFICER TROY FLOYD, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Officer Troy Floyd, of the Summit Police Department, in Summit, Mississippi, to eternal rest, rendering great sorrow and loss to his family, friends and community; and
WHEREAS, Officer Floyd was an exemplary member of the Summit Police Department, demonstrating unwavering commitment, courage, and integrity in his role as a law enforcement officer, and embodying the core values of justice and selflessness throughout his career; and
WHEREAS, a native son of Lincoln County, Officer Floyd was a graduate of Brookhaven High School, Class of 1993, and lived in the Clear Branch community, and his strong sense of family, community, and service to others was rooted in his upbringing and remained a guiding force throughout his life and career; and
WHEREAS, Officer Floyd's remarkable 28-year career in law enforcement included service in multiple capacities, including Deputy Sheriff with the Copiah, Lawrence, Lincoln, and Pike County
Sheriff's Offices, as well as a Parole Agent with the Mississippi Department of Corrections; and
WHEREAS, additionally, Officer Floyd also served as a dispatcher and jailer for the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and with distinction in the Summit and Wesson Police Departments, and in every role, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to protecting his community, upholding the law, and serving with integrity and honor; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, August 8, 2024, Officer Floyd tragically lost his life in the line of duty, marking the end of his watch, and his sacrifice leaves a lasting legacy of valor, duty and service that will continue to inspire the community he served and loved; and
WHEREAS, Officer Floyd's passing represents an immeasurable loss to his family, friends, and the entire law enforcement community, and the Town of Summit will forever cherish his memory and the profound impact of his dedication and bravery; and
WHEREAS, Officer Floyd is survived by his beloved wife, Mrs. Sage Floyd, and his children, Raiden Floyd and Carlyanna Nicholson, who mourn the loss of a devoted husband, father, and protector, and their strength and courage during this time of grief serve as an inspiration to all; and
WHEREAS, a testament to the power of faith in action, not only in his personal life but within the realm of law enforcement, Officer Floyd was grounded in his belief in God, and he approached his duties with a profound sense of purpose, tackling each day as a divine assignment from the Lord to serve and protect his community; and
WHEREAS, Officer Floyd drew strength from prayer, seeking guidance and wisdom to navigate situations with grace and integrity, and he could be witnessing of God's love for you and quoting scriptures while he was putting you in hand cuffs, emphasizing the importance of forgiveness and redemption; and
WHEREAS, Officer Floyd's faith allowed him to approach even the most challenging encounters with compassion and understanding, and by embodying the principles of faith, love and justice, he not only upheld the law but also inspired those around him to reflect on their own values, demonstrating that a Godly life can profoundly impact both personal and professional lives; and
WHEREAS, Officer Floyd's legacy of service, sacrifice, and commitment will continue to inspire both current and future generations of law enforcement officers, as well as community members who strive to live with the same dedication to the safety and well-being of others; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and honor the lives of extraordinary Mississippians, especially those such as Officer Floyd, a dedicated public servant who devoted his life to protecting and serving his community, and whose life's light illuminated the path of hope for all he encountered along this earthly sojourn:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we honor Officer Troy Floyd for his selfless service, ultimate sacrifice, and the heroism that marked his career, and express deepest sympathy to his family, friends and colleagues upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Officer Troy Floyd and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
