Senate Resolution 123

(As Adopted by Senate)

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE LAKE CORMORANT HIGH SCHOOL "LADY GATORS" GIRLS POWERLIFTING TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2024 CLASS 6A GIRLS POWERLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, Lake Cormorant High School has been dominating the powerlifting sport in Mississippi.  On March 29, 2024, the 2024  Girls Powerlifting Team won the Class 6A Girls Powerlifting Championship at the Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson; and

WHEREAS, Lake Cormorant's dedication and strength have truly made them a formidable force.  The list of state qualifiers included the following "Lady Gators":  Kalee Nelson (Sophomore), Taylor Perry (Senior), Brooke O'Conner (Sophomore), Trinity Brantley (Senior), Zamoria Nelson (Junior), Janie Rose (Junior), Alana McGowan (Junior), Hannah Harris (Senior), Alassandra Lucero (Sophomore), and Dynasty Noel (Junior); and

WHEREAS, the girls were allowed to perform seven reps total and could choose how to split them up among the three events that would count toward their final score: squats, bench pressing and dead lifting.  The key to success in the sport of powerlifting is more in the correct form used to lift weights, and of course, remarkable strength.  Another factor is having the confidence to achieve the goal of lifting heavy weights, and the "Lady Gators" have that confidence; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That do hereby commend and congratulate the Lake Cormorant High School "Lady Gators" Girls Powerlifting Team for winning the 2024 Class 6A Girls Powerlifting Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Sergeant Major Thomas Herman and Lake Cormorant Head Principal, Dr. Bobby Davis for the team, forwarded to the DeSoto County Board of Education and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
