A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE JUDICIAL AND PUBLIC SERVICE CAREER OF CLAIBORNE COUNTY JUSTICE COURT JUDGE MARY C. CURRY ON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE BENCH.
WHEREAS, we join the Mississippi and Claiborne County Bar and the citizens of Claiborne County in recognizing the outstanding judicial and public service career of Justice Court Judge Mary C. Curry; and
WHEREAS, Mary C. Curry has served as Justice Court Judge of the Eastern District of Claiborne County from 2016 to 2023; and
WHEREAS, before becoming Justice Court Judge, Curry was appointed Justice Court Clerk from 1994 to 2021. She also worked as Secretary/Dispatcher for Claiborne County Fire Department from 1981 to 1994. Judge Curry was also elected as District Four Election Commissioner serving three terms from 1989 to 2000. Judge Curry has been a loyal and devoted public servant to Claiborne County for 42 years; and
WHEREAS, the daughter of Clem Hedrick, Jr., and Louise Washington Hedrick, a military disabled Veteran and stay-home mother and housewife, Judge Curry learned early the importance of family, education, hard work and character. Judge Curry is a graduate of Port Gibson High School and attended Hinds Community College; and
WHEREAS, as Justice Court Clerk, Judge Curry was very instrumental in computerizing the Justice Court system, improving the accessibility and efficiency of county business, along with upgrading the courtroom to accommodate judges and citizens of Claiborne County; and
WHEREAS, Curry is a faithful, lifelong Catholic and member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving on the Finance Committee and Ladies Guild. Judge Curry is the mother of two adult sons, Wally, Sr., and Allen Curry, the grandmother of five and great-grandmother of three; and
WHEREAS, Judge Curry has served as a leader and mentor, presiding with integrity, civility, courtesy and adherence to the Golden Rule and has brought honor to her family, her community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the judicial and public service career of Claiborne County Justice Court Judge Mary C. Curry on the occasion of her retirement from the bench and extend our best wishes for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Claiborne County Justice Court Judge Mary C. Curry and her family, and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
