A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING HONORABLE BECKY PRUETT, ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY FOR THE 12TH MISSISSIPPI CIRCUIT COURT DISTRICT, AS FORMER MISS MISSISSIPPI 2001 AND COMMENDING HER CHILD ADVOCACY AND CIVIC CONTRIBUTIONS.
WHEREAS, the "2001 Miss Mississippi" Pageant is over; however, the career and public service had just begun for Honorable Becky Pruett, who served as Miss Mississippi from July 2001 to July 2002; and
WHEREAS, Becky represented Mississippi at the 2002 Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City, placing as a Quarter-Finalist, Quality of Life Alternate and Talent Preliminary Winner. She served the remainder of her term as Miss Mississippi as an Ambassador for The Frontline Program through the Mississippi Attorney General's office Tobacco Cessation Program; and
WHEREAS, Becky presently serves as an Assistant District Attorney at the 12th Circuit Court District in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where she is the mother of three boys and an advocate for abused children; and
WHEREAS, Becky's interest in public service is deeply rooted. Before her third pageant experience for Miss Mississippi, she served as an intern for then-Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott in Washington, D.C. Pruett, a USM graduate, delayed her college and law school education to participate in the Miss Mississippi and Miss America competition; and
WHEREAS, Becky received her JD at the University of Alabama, where she participated in the following activities and societies: Order of the Coif; Law School Ambassador; Dean's Community Service Scholar; Recipient of Anna C. Curry Leadership Award; Honor Court Prosecutor; Domestic Violence Legal Clinic; Bench and Bar Honor Society; The Journal of the Legal Profession; Co-Chair of Women in Leadership Committee; and Vice President of Law Republicans; and
WHEREAS, following law school, she became Grants Coordinator for the Mississippi Center for Community and Civic Engagement at USM, worked as Trial Prosecutor for the 18th Judicial Circuit Court in Birmingham, Alabama, wrote proposals for Department of Defense contracts and served as Contract Compliance Manager in Orlando, Florida, and served as Assistant State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit Court District in Orlando, Florida; and
WHEREAS, her civic involvement with the Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, while she handles her court duties exemplifies her volunteer advocacy, and we pay tribute to a former Miss Mississippi whose civic energy is an example for all Mississippians:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize Honorable Becky Pruett, Assistant District Attorney for the 12th Mississippi Circuit Court District, as former Miss Mississippi 2001 and commend her Child Advocacy and Civic Contributions, and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate to Becky and her family for future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Honorable Becky Pruett, forwarded to the 12th Circuit Court District in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
