A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI COMMUNITY COLLEGE "RANGERS" CHEER TEAM FOR WINNING THE 2024 UCA AND UDA COLLEGE CHEERLEADING NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, OPEN ALL-GIRL DIVISION.
WHEREAS, with the word "magical" often used to describe Walt Disney World Resort, it was only fitting for the Northwest Mississippi Community College "Rangers" Cheer Team to experience a magical weekend of their own on January 12 through 14, 2024, with the team taking home a UCA and UDA College Cheerleading National Championship win in the Open All-Girl division, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida; and
WHEREAS, over 300 universities from across 48 states were present for the competition, and cheerleading teams were judged on their stunting and tumbling skills, crowd-leading ability and overall performance; and
WHEREAS, since the 2020-2021 season, the "Rangers" have earned four national titles, and this year, the team competed in three divisions and took home top finishes in all three, with their most notable victory being in the Open All-Girl division, collecting a first place finish in the semifinals with an 87.9 score, before earning a winning 90.8 total in the finals; and
WHEREAS, the "Rangers" have been superbly coached and tremendously inspired by Head Coach Brandon Casey and Assistant Coach Rainy Bordelon; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these outstanding Mississippi student-athletes, whose hard work and dedication bring honor to Northwest Mississippi Community College and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Mississippi Community College "Rangers" Cheer Team for winning the 2024 UCA and UDA College Cheerleading National Championship, Open All-Girl Division and extend to them best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Head Coach Brandon Casey, forwarded to Northwest Mississippi Community College President, Michael J. Heindl and the Board of Trustees and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
