Senate Resolution 78

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE FLORENCE HIGH SCHOOL "EAGLES" BOYS SOCCER TEAM AND HEAD COACH JOSHUA CAVANAUGH FOR WINNING THE 2024 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A BOYS SOCCER STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Florence High School "Eagles" Boys Soccer Team defeated Lafayette High School at the 2024 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A Boys Soccer State Championship on February 17, 2024, the school's fifth state title in school history and first state title since 2017; and

     WHEREAS, the "Eagles" never wavered from the moment they entered the field until they claimed their well-deserved championship title with a score of 2-1; and

     WHEREAS, the team's statistics were impressive during the season with 16-8-2, but the key to the "Eagles'" consistent success has been the tremendous dedication and year-round hard work by the team's talented players; and

     WHEREAS, the "Eagles" have been superbly coached and inspired by Coach Joshua Cavanaugh, who has broadened the team's knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the "Eagles" have developed a winning, cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual players and Coach Cavanaugh; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these exceptional Mississippi student-athletes, whose hard work, dedication, and excellence on the field bring honor to Florence High School, their community and the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend the Florence High School "Eagles" Boys Soccer Team and Coach Joshua Cavanaugh upon winning the 2024 MHSAA Class 5A Boys Soccer State Championship, and extend best wishes to the Eagles for continued success in all their future athletic and academic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Joshua Cavanaugh, the Florence High School "Eagles" Boys Soccer Team, forwarded to Florence High School Principal Keith Reed, and the Rankin County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
