Senate Resolution 72

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PROFESSIONAL RODEO COMPETITOR ROVESKEY "FATTY" HICKMAN FROM SHUQUALAK, MISSISSIPPI, FOR HIS SUCCESS AND FAME IN REPRESENTING MISSISSIPPI ON THE SECOND SEASON OF THE NATIONAL TV SHOW ULTIMATE COWBOY SHOWDOWN:  ALL-STARS.

WHEREAS, Shuqualak, Mississippi, Rodeo Competitor Roveskey "Fatty" Hickman knows what it takes to work and win.  He started competing in rodeo roping events all over Mississippi at a young age, and his skill earned him a Rodeo College Scholarship.  He was a finalist for the United States Team Roping Championship for the last five years, and he has won five saddles; and

WHEREAS, "Fatty" had to work his way up to his dream job of being a ranch manager of a 1,100 acre cattle ranch.  His true goal is to own a ranch that he can pass down to future generations and continue competitive roping on the pro rodeo circuit.  Luckily, good fortune came in the form of another chance to compete on the popular national subscription TV show Ultimate Cowboy Showdown:  All-Stars; and

WHEREAS, on March 7, 2023, General Entertainment Network INSP announced the members of the All-Stars Edition of Ultimate Cowboy Showdown.  Top cowboys from the first three seasons of the fan-favorite original cowboy competition series returned for a second chance to prove they have what it takes to win.  Host Trace Adkins said, "When we opted to make an All-Stars Edition of Ultimate Cowboy Showdown, we knew the best-of-the-best from previous seasons would bring their A game in pursuit of the life-changing prize.  Each competitor's grit and endurance are put to the test, in ways not even they could have imagined."  Returning from Season Two was Roveskey "Fatty" Hickman from Shuqualak, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, to demonstrate "Fatty" Hickman's national exposure, INSP is available nationwide to more than 55 million households via MVPSs, including DISH, DIRECTV, Comcast Xfinity, Cox Communications, Charter Spectrum, National Cable Television Cooperative, Verizon Fios, AT&T U-verse and Sling TV.  These networks provide a trusted viewing experience of timeless Westerns and films focused on adventure; and

WHEREAS, in an interview with the network magazine, "Fatty" stated that the essential parts of being a cowboy are grit and determination.  He believes everybody has to have some heart in their job.  He explains, "I'm somewhat of a first-generation cowboy, but I guess I'm a third-generation horseman.  My dad's a team roper, and he rides and trains horses.  His father was more of a cattleman.  So I guess I took both of them and put them together"; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this young Mississippi citizen who is a role model for his generation and who has brought honor to his family, his community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Professional Rodeo Competitor Roveskey "Fatty" Hickman from Shuqualak, Mississippi, for his success and fame in representing Mississippi on the second season of the national TV show Ultimate Cowboy Showdown:  All-Stars, and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate to Roveskey and his family for future success on the Ultimate Cowboy Showdown national TV series, in his professional rodeo competitions, and in his many ranch management and community service projects.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Roveskey "Fatty" Hickman and his brother, State Senator Rod Hickman (District 32), forwarded to the Management of the Dixie National Rodeo, the Mississippi Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
