A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING PARKER A. HOWARD UPON EARNING THE RANK OF EAGLE SCOUT FROM BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA.

     WHEREAS, Parker A. Howard of Troop 3 Carterville Baptist Church in Petal, Mississippi, is being honored upon his earning the prestigious Eagle Scout rank, which is attained by only five percent of scouts who participate in Boy Scouts of America (BSA); and

     WHEREAS, Parker, the 17-year old son of Alex Howard and Whitney Howard, is an 11th grade honor roll student at Petal High School who is being officially honored at Carterville Baptist Church by his troop, family and friends on February 25, 2024, at his Eagle Scout Court of Honor Ceremony; and

     WHEREAS, having progressed through the ranks of BSA as a Tender Foot, Second Class, First Class, Star and Life, Parker has developed good personal character, citizenship as well as personal fitness, which are some of the fine objectives of BSA, which, in turn, leads to great future leaders of this country; and

     WHEREAS, before earning his Eagle Scout rank, Parker has earned a variety of merit badges, some of which include:  camping, citizenship in the community, citizenship in the nation, citizenship in society, citizenship in the world, communication, cooking, emergency preparedness or lifesaving, environmental science or sustainability, first aid, swimming or hiking or cycling, personal management, personal fitness, family life, nature, art, Indian lore, wilderness survival, electricity, rifle and space exploration; and

     WHEREAS, in addition to earning a plethora of merit badges, Parker completed his innovative Eagle Scout Service Project that benefited Petal Primary School, which entailed his planning, designing and building, with the assistance of his fellow troop members, robotics tables that young robotics engineers at Petal Primary can use to build models, use for competition events and explore their overall robotics creativity for years to come; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to pay tribute to a brilliant and disciplined young man such as Parker A. Howard whose notable accomplishment of earning the rank of Eagle Scout from Boy Scouts of America signifies that he has a firm foundation to build upon throughout life while executing the Scout Oath and Scout Law for the betterment of not only his community, but for this great state as a whole:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate Parker A. Howard upon earning the rank of Eagle Scout, and we wish him continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Parker A. Howard, Troop 3 Carterville Baptist Church in Petal, Mississippi, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
