House Bill 562

AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE PEER COMMITTEE, FOR A PERIOD OF THREE YEARS, TO CONDUCT ANNUAL REVIEWS TO DETERMINE THE IMPACT PEER COMMITTEE REPORTS ON SCHOOL DISTRICT OPERATIONS AND EFFICIENCY HAVE HAD ON SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT ARE THE SUBJECT OF A REPORT AS WELL AS OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN THE STATE; TO REQUIRE THE COMMITTEE TO SUBMIT AN ANNUAL REPORT ON ITS FINDINGS TO THE LEGISLATURE BEFORE DECEMBER 15; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: SECTION 1. (1) Before December 15 in the years 2024, 2025 and 2026, the Joint Legislative Committee on Performance Evaluation and Expenditure Review (PEER) shall report to the Legislature any impacts the PEER Committee's reports issued on school district operations and efficiency in the preceding calendar year have had on the operations of public school districts.

(2) Each annual report required under this section must:

(a) Survey and review actions taken by all school districts studied in a PEER report issued in the preceding calendar year to determine what impact the PEER Committee's review has had on the general management and resource allocation decisions in those school districts; and

(b) Sample other school districts to determine if those districts are aware of and have reviewed the work performed by the PEER Committee regarding school district operations and efficiency.

(3) This section shall stand repealed on January 1, 2027.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2024.
