A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE INGOMAR ATTENDANCE CENTER "LADY FALCONS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH TRENT ADAIR FOR WINNING THE MHSAA CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WHICH IS THEIR SECOND IN THREE YEARS AND TWELFTH STATE TITLE OVERALL.
WHEREAS, Ingomar Attendance Center "Lady Falcons" reigning Class 1A "Miss Basketball" Macie Phifer got a lot of attention in 2023, and rightfully so. But on March 2, 2023, it was about the freshmen for the "Lady Falcons." Behind the play of freshmen Daylen Grisham and Issie Riddle, along with some solid second half defense, Ingomar got past defending Champion Biggersville 53-38 to claim the MHSAA Girls Class 1A State Championship at the Mississippi Coliseum; and
WHEREAS, it's the "Lady Falcons" (37-1) second State Title in the last three seasons and the program's 12th State Title overall. The "Lady Falcons" lost only one game all season; and
WHEREAS, "Obviously I was proud of the girls," Ingomar Coach Trent Adair said. "The response the girls had after being down 10-1 was incredible, and I can't be more proud of them"; and
WHEREAS, Ingomar responded to that early deficit with an 8-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back three pointers by Cadie Jo Byrd to cut the "Lady Lions" lead down to 10-9 at the end of the opening frame. Ingomar continued the run as they took a 13-10 lead to begin the second quarter, and from that point each team traded baskets until the first half ended in a 23-23 tie. Daylen Grisham scored Ingomar's final nine points of the first half. The third quarter was the difference in this game. The "Lady Falcons" outscored Biggersville 12-3 thanks to a 9-0 run to begin the quarter, and led it 30-24. Cadie Jo Byrd hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give Ingomar a 35-26 lead heading into the fourth quarter. In the final period, Macie Phifer made a three-point play to give the "Lady Falcons" a 38-27 lead, and from that point the "Lady Falcons" never got below 10 points. Daylen Grisham and Issie Riddle scored 14 of Ingomar's 18 points in the fourth quarter; and
WHEREAS, Daylen Grisham had a game-high 20 points for Ingomar and was named the game's "Most Valuable Player." Issie Riddle and Cadie Jo Byrd each added nine points for the "Lady Falcons"; and
WHEREAS, Ingomar rolled through the playoffs and won its four matchups by 35 points per game. The semifinal was the "Lady Falcons" first game decided by 10 or less points. "Anybody that goes on a run to get to a Championship usually has to fight through some performance and survive," Coach Adair said; and
WHEREAS, the 2022-2023 Ingomar High School "Lady Falcons" Girls Basketball Championship Roster: Issie Riddle, Mia Skelton, Daylen Grisham, Jayonna Anderson, Lindsey Dillard, Macie Phifer, Quinshala Atkinson, Bella Phifer, Allyson Beard, Damia Skelton, Cadie Jo Byrd, Kylie Jumper, Anna Lauren Glasson, T'Nya Jones, Marissa Bell, Kylie Brock and Kaylee Crawford; Head Coach Trent Adair and Assistant Coach Katherine Downing; and
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize these student athletes who again have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Ingomar Attendance Center "Lady Falcons" Girls Basketball Team and Head Coach Trent Adair for winning the MHSAA Class 1A State Championship which is their second in three years and twelfth State Title overall, and extend the best wishes of the Mississippi Senate to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.
