Senate Concurrent Resolution 568

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING ENTERGY MISSISSIPPI ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY AND COMMENDING THE CIVIC  CONTRIBUTIONS OF THIS LEADING CORPORATE CITIZEN.

     WHEREAS, we join the business community and citizens of our state in extending our congratulations and best wishes to Entergy Mississippi on its 100th Anniversary, a landmark event for a business entity; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi, LLC has been providing safe, reliable and affordable electricity for homes and businesses in Mississippi since its founding 100 years ago in 1923; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi today serves approximately 461,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers in 45 of Mississippi's 82 counties; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy companies employ almost 2,500 people in the State of Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, since the company's earliest days, Entergy Mississippi has led or played an active role in economic and community development initiatives that have given Mississippi an edge in recruiting new industry and jobs; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi's commitment to provide affordable power for all customers is reflected in historically low rates that have been well below state and national averages for many years; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi is focused on creating an affordable, cleaner, more resilient energy future for Mississippi with a diverse power generation portfolio that includes natural gas, renewables and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station in Port Gibson, which has been producing safe, emission-free electricity since 1985; and

     WHEREAS, Entergy Mississippi has powered life for communities through strategic philanthropy, volunteerism and initiatives that help create and sustain healthy, vibrant communities; and

     WHEREAS, over the past 15 years alone, Entergy Mississippi has donated more than $30 million in shareholder-funded grants to nonprofit organizations in Mississippi that focus on education, the environment and poverty solutions; and

     WHEREAS, the men and women of Entergy Mississippi are not only committed to providing safe, reliable and affordable power but are also nationally recognized as one of "America's Most Responsible Companies," "Top Utilities in Economic Development," "Emergency Response Award," and named to the United States Chamber of Commerce "Corporate Citizenship Hall of Fame":

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend Entergy Mississippi, its leadership and employees, on the Company's 100th Anniversary, and extend our best wishes to this leading corporate citizen on this auspicious occasion.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Entergy Mississippi's President and Chief Executive Officer and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
