House Resolution 174

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED GENTLEMAN FROM DESOTO COUNTY, REPRESENTATIVE STEVE HOPKINS, FOR HIS LEGISLATIVE CAREER WITH THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES AND PUBLIC SERVICE TO THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI.

WHEREAS, the distinguished Gentleman from DeSoto County, Representative Steve Hopkins, has announced his plans to retire from the Mississippi House of Representatives at the end of 2023; and

WHEREAS, before assuming his seat as the member of the House of Representatives from District 7 in 2016, Representative Hopkins worked diligently with the FedEx corporation, where he continued to work hard during his tenure with the House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, upon his election to the House of Representatives in 2016, Steve Hopkins became the distinguished Gentleman from DeSoto County; and

WHEREAS, Representative Hopkin's love and deeply felt respect for the Legislature as a sacred institution is innately apparent in his welcoming and authentically pleasant and cordial disposition; and

WHEREAS, currently, he serves as Vice Chairman of the Military Affairs Committee; and is a member of the following committees: Accountability, Efficiency and Transparency; Appropriations; Judiciary A; Judiciary En Banc; Insurance; Banking and Financial Services and Public Utilities; and

WHEREAS, the members of the House of Representatives will cherish the bond and common goals for the betterment of this great state shared with Representative Hopkins over the course of his tenure with the Mississippi House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, the service of Representative Hopkins would be without honor but for the continued support, encouragement and love of his family, especially his wife, Beckie, who supports him in all his endeavors; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the service of our colleagues who represented his district, this body and the people of this state with honor:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished Gentleman from DeSoto County, Representative Steve Hopkins, for his legislative career and public service, and express best wishes for continued success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Representative Steve Hopkins, his wife Beckie and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
