A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE DILIGENCE, SERVICE AND WIDE INFLUENCE OF JUPITER BAPTIST CHURCH ON THE OCCASION OF THE CHURCH'S HISTORIC 100TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY.

     WHEREAS, Jupiter Baptist Church located in Simpson County, Mississippi, celebrates the splendid occasion of its centennial church anniversary, acknowledging 100 years of spiritual excellence and devotion; and

     WHEREAS, in 1923, under the leadership of Reverend W.S. Landrum, Jupiter Baptist Church was founded with 30 charter members, and during the annual meeting of the Simpson County Baptist Association, the church was admitted to the association; and

     WHEREAS, Jupiter Baptist Church held its first services in the old Jupiter School, where their Sunday School was already being held on Sunday afternoons, and these services continued in the school building until 1925 when the Jupiter School was abandoned; and

     WHEREAS, once the old school building was abandoned, it then served as the church building until the 1970s when the church body voted to erect a new church facility, and this new facility was built on the same foundation as the old Jupiter School and church building; and  

     WHEREAS, throughout the church's long history, Jupiter Baptist Church has worshipped and served the Lord under the illustrious guidance of many devout pastors, but the Christian message and the members' eagerness to learn and worship the perfect gospel has always remained steadfast; and

     WHEREAS, while the community and the congregation have transformed in the past 100 years, Jupiter Baptist Church has maintained an urgent devotion to keep the Great Commandment, fulfill the Great Commission and practice the Golden Rule; and

     WHEREAS, Jupiter Baptist Church has been a valued and trusted institution in Simpson County, Mississippi, since its inception 100 years ago, withstanding the ever-changing dynamics surrounding it by being firmly rooted and grounded in its biblical principles, and it has continued in the longstanding tradition of empowering countless families and others through the teachings of the fulfillment of the gospel; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding and contributory religious institutions such as Jupiter Baptist Church, which remains a cornerstone of Simpson County as it strives continuously to promote the spread and growth of the Christian faith:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the diligence, service and wide influence of Jupiter Baptist Church on the occasion of the church's historic 100th year anniversary and extend warmest wishes for continued prosperity, spiritual growth and success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the pastor of Jupiter Baptist Church and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
