House Resolution 80

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MR. WILL LUMMUS FOR HIS OUTSTANDING RODEO SUCCESS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Will Lummus, of Byhalia, Mississippi, is number one in the world for steer wrestling, a truly extraordinary accomplishment; and

     WHEREAS, as of 2022, Mr. Lummus finished second in the world standings for the second-straight year and qualified for his fifth-straight NFR appearance, and so far in 2023, Mr. Lummus has won the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo, the Stampede at the Ike in West Monroe, Louisiana, and the Magnolia Center Pro Rodeo in Laurel, Mississippi, and his career earnings total $1,126,411; and

     WHEREAS, since 2016, among numerous other honors and awards, Mr. Lummus won the Calgary Stampede in Alberta, Canada, the Coleman (Texas) PRCA Rodeo, the Gladewater (Texas) Round-Up Rodeo, and the Home Of Champions Rodeo in Red Lodge, Montana; and he also won the 146th Silver Spurs Rodeo in Kissimmee, Florida, the Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo in Odessa, Texas, the NE Mississippi (Tupelo) Championship Rodeo, the Sheridan (Wyoming) Rodeo, the Deep South PRCA Rodeo in Winnsboro, Louisiana, the Georgia (Perry) National Rodeo, the Rodeo of the Mid-South featuring Lecile Harris in Southaven, Mississippi, the Southern Miss Coca-Cola Rodeo in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, the 71st Annual PRCA Rodeo in Crossett, Arkansas, and the Richland County Fair and Rodeo in Sidney, Montana; and he was also co-champion at the Gooding (Idaho) Pro Rodeo, and won the California Rodeo Salinas, the Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo in San Juan Capistrano, California, the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo in Colorado Springs, Colorado, the Rooftop Rodeo in Estes Park, Colorado, steer wrestling at the Northwest Florida Championship Rodeo, the Lowry's 4L Ranch Rodeo in Summerville, Georgia, the Heart of the North Rodeo in Spooner, Wisconsin, the Cassia County Fair and Rodeo in Burley, Idaho, and the Pasco County Fair Championship Rodeo in Dade City, Florida; and

     WHEREAS, outside of his extraordinary rodeo career, Mr. Lummus is married to his wife, Jenna, and is the Northwest Community College Rodeo coach; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend exceptional individuals, especially those such as Mr. Lummus, whose dedication to the sport of rodeo brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend Mr. Will Lummus for his outstanding rodeo success and accomplishments.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Will Lummus, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
