A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING MR. JOHNNY JOHNS UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS AGENCY MANAGER OF MISSISSIPPI FARM BUREAU INSURANCE COMPANY IN COPIAH COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI.

     WHEREAS, after 28 years of outstanding service to the residents of Copiah County, Mississippi, Mr. Johnny Johns retired as agency manager of Mississippi Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Copiah County; and   

     WHEREAS, the oldest of five children, Mr. Johns grew up on Lilly Road in Gallman, Mississippi, and graduated from Hazlehurst High School in 1969; and

     WHEREAS, in August 1969, Mr. Johns became a freshman at Mississippi State University, where he was a trumpet player in the Famous Maroon Band, and he graduated from Mississippi State in 1973, with a degree in instrumental music education; and

     WHEREAS, after his time at Mississippi State, Mr. Johns went to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, as associate director of bands, for two years before going to Forest, Mississippi, as associate director of bands for six years; and

     WHEREAS, in 1978, Mr. Johns made a career change and became an agent with the Equitable Insurance Company, and in 1980, he was offered an opportunity to return home to Copiah County, and he accepted a position as an agent with the Mississippi Farm Bureau Insurance Company, and worked as an agent with Farm Bureau for 14 years, and because of his exceptional dedication and service, in 1994, he was appointed as agency manager with Farm Bureau for Copiah County, and he continued in that position for 28 years until he retired on September 30, 2022; and

     WHEREAS, additionally, Mr. Johns was a member of The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors (NAIFA), and he served in several leadership positions on the state and national level during that time; and

     WHEREAS, outside of his distinguished career, Mr. Johns and his wife, Debbie, will have been married for 51 years on June 3, 2023, and they were blessed with two children, Jennifer, who teaches at Copiah Academy, and Jay, who is worship leader at the Way Church in Brandon, Mississippi, daughter-in-law, Laura Pickard Johns, and two grandsons, Levi and Wyatt; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Mr. Johnny Johns, whose exceptional service brings honor to Copiah County and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize and commend Mr. Johnny Johns upon the occasion of his retirement as agency manager of Mississippi Farm Bureau Insurance Company in Copiah County, Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Johnny Johns, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
