Senate Resolution 63

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING JEFF ROSAMOND FOR HIS DISTINGUISHED AND OUTSTANDING LEGAL SERVICE TO THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS DIRECTOR OF THE SENATE LEGISLATIVE SERVICES OFFICE FOLLOWING 32 YEARS WITH THE MISSISSIPPI SENATE.

     WHEREAS, longtime Senate Legislative Services Attorney and Director Jeff Rosamond has announced that he will retire at the conclusion of the 2022 Regular Session.  Jeff is to be commended for his demonstrated excellence and dedication in directing the legal services of the Mississippi Senate; and

     WHEREAS, Jeff is in his 32nd year with the Senate.  He was employed as Senate Staff Attorney in December 1990 and was promoted to the position of Director of the Senate Legislative Services Office in August 2018, serving for four years in that capacity.  Prior to his service to the Senate, Jeff was an Assistant Attorney General in the Office of the Mississippi Attorney General from May 1987 through December 1990.  Jeff also worked as an Adjunct Professor at the Mississippi College School of Law from August 2009 through January 2012; and

     WHEREAS, Jeff is from Louisville, Mississippi.  He received his Juris Doctor from The University of Mississippi School of Law, his BSBA Degree from Mississippi State University College of Business and Industry, and his MBA from Mississippi College School of Business; and

     WHEREAS, the Legislative Services Office is organized by committee assignments, and Jeff has been responsible for numerous committees, including Insurance; Public Utilities; Business and Financial Institutions; Accountability, Efficiency & Transparency; and Appropriations.  Over the years, he has become an expert in these fields as acknowledged by State Agency Directors, the Mississippi Department of Insurance, the Mississippi Department of Revenue and the Governor's office.  He has developed the language in our bills for the various types of programs for which he has been responsible.  He was particularly involved in the passage of important tort reform legislation during the early 2000s, when the issue of medical malpractice and general tort reform was impacting insurance rates; and

     WHEREAS, during Jeff's career, he turned down numerous offers from the private sector due to his genuine dedication to our legislative institution; and

     WHEREAS, Jeff Rosamond serves his state well with skill, professionalism and dignity.  He has demonstrated a long-standing commitment to the legislative institution and a clear vision and understanding of the role of legislative staffing in representative government; has participated in the provision of staff work, resulting in systemic public policy reform and institutional improvement; and consistently approached his legislative work with grace and good humor under pressure; and

     WHEREAS, Jeff has demonstrated beyond a doubt his love for the Mississippi Senate and his dedication to the principle that the provision of legal services to the Legislature is done in a professional manner, and it is with great pride that we join the members of the Mississippi Senate and Senate staff in recognizing a career that has brought honor to The Mississippi Bar, the Mississippi Legislature and the Great State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby recognize Jeff Rosamond for his distinguished and outstanding legal service to the Mississippi Senate on the occasion of his retirement as Director of the Senate Legislative Services Office following 32 years with the Mississippi Senate, and extend the commendation of the Mississippi Senate for his service.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Jeff Rosamond and members of his family, forwarded to The Mississippi Bar, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
