A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION FOR ITS OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND COMMEMORATING ITS CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) was formed in 1922 to serve member schools by providing leadership and coordination of interscholastic activities enhancing the educational experiences of secondary students; and
WHEREAS, the MHSAA promotes participation and sportsmanship to develop good citizens through interscholastic activities, which provide equitable opportunities, positive recognition and learning experiences to students while maximizing the achievement of educational goals; and
Whereas, the MHSAA is a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS), which consists of 50 individual state high school athletic and/or activities associations united to secure the benefits of cooperation and increased efficiency through the coordination of ideas of all who are engaged in high school athletic and activities programs throughout the nation; and
WHEREAS, the MHSAA works with school leaders statewide for the administration of education-based high school athletics and activities through the writing of playing rules that emphasize health, safety and educational programs that increase participation opportunities and promote sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, through the efforts of the MHSAA and its member schools, Mississippi is recognized nationally for its athletic and activities programs and the young people who represent Mississippi in both college and professional sports:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby congratulate the Mississippi High School Activities Association on the Centennial Anniversary of its founding and extend best wishes for continued success in its future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to the Executive Director of the Mississippi High School Activities Association for appropriate distribution and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
