A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO THE CITIZENS OF MISSISSIPPI OF DR. MICHAEL "MIKE" J. MCGREVEY ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT AS DEPUTY EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AND CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER OF THE MISSISSIPPI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY.
WHEREAS, Dr. Michael "Mike" J. McGrevey, a leader, advisor, economic developer and friend to many will retire as the Deputy Director and Chief Financial Officer of the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) on March 31, 2022. He has provided outstanding service to MDA since July 2015; and
WHEREAS, under Dr. McGrevey's visionary leadership that bolstered innovation and competitiveness for business and industry, the State of Mississippi experienced record private capital investment, a record number of Mississippians working with higher incomes, and record growth in global export trade; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McGrevey's dedicated focus on economic development yielded more than $10 Billion in private investment and 30,000 new jobs, as well as the largest economic project in state history, a landmark agreement with Continental Tire to build a major facility in central Mississippi and create more than 2,500 jobs; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McGrevey's foresight and strategic counsel led to the creation of Mississippi's site development grant program that laid the foundation that strengthened project recruitment competitiveness for today and many decades to come; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McGrevey's executive role was the linchpin that created the Mississippi Defense Initiative that provided focus and synergies which resulted in securing national security projects, defense institutional connectivity and the creation of the Mississippi Governor's Office for Military Affairs. Mike served his country in the United States Air Force from May 1979 through April 2000; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McGrevey was the founding Chairman of the Mississippi Lottery Board where he has served since October 2018. He also provided outstanding service on the Mississippi Veterans Affairs Board from 2015-2021; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McGrevey's greatest legacy is as a military leader, academician and public servant, and his relentless energy and round-the-clock work created opportunity for success for all Mississippians:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the distinguished service to the citizens of Mississippi of Dr. Michael "Mike" J. McGrevey on the occasion of his retirement as Deputy Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of the Mississippi Development Authority, and express our sincere gratitude.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented at the reception honoring Dr. Michael "Mike" J. McGrevey for his distinguished public service and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
