Senate Resolution 30

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE "WILDCATS" CHEER SQUAD AND COACH SARAH SMITH FOR THEIR FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, all the Pearl River Community College Cheer Squad's hard work and dedication over the past months has come to fruition as the Wildcats claimed the Universal Cheerleaders Association's All-Girl National Championship on January 15, 2022, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.  The championship marks the first in Pearl River's history; and

WHEREAS, "Words can't even describe how proud I am of the team," Pearl River Coach Sarah Smith said.  "The team executed so well, not once but twice, in the most high-pressure situation that you can imagine.  These girls are exceptional athletes.  They are relentless in their daily pursuit of perfection, and it absolutely set them apart on the National Championship floor.  The key to our victory was strong veteran leadership, focused athletes and high standards for all of our skills"; and

WHEREAS, the Wildcats performed phenomenally in their two appearances.  In PRCC's first run, the Wildcats qualified for the finals by scoring 88.7.  In the finals, PRCC competed against the College of New Jersey, Rowan University, Avila University and Webber International University.  The team again put in an incredible performance, scoring an 88.65 which defeated its closest opponent by five points and awarded the Wildcats the National Championship; and

WHEREAS, during the Awards Ceremony, all finalists sit on the floor and placements are announced from the bottom to the top.  The excitement is indescribable as results are announced and the team's name still has not been called.  To hear your team's name called last is the goal, and when it happens, the team goes wild.  They earned every bit of the accomplishment they felt in that moment; and

WHEREAS, the 2021 Pearl River Community College National Championship Cheer Roster is:  Arielle Alexander, Tookie Bolton, Lexi Broom, Kaylee Clavo, Macey Head, Kayla Jordan, Tavia Keys, Autumn Mallette, Austin Mayfield, Schyler Morgan, Zoe Nastasi, Hannah Beth Nelson, Madison Nielson, Karli Pilkington, Sidney Reesor, Karlee Rodriguez, Keelyn Rogers, Malaysia Thomas, Haegan Tynes and Kacey Wallace; and Head Coach Sarah Smith; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their college, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl River Community College "Wildcats" Cheer Squad and Coach Sarah Smith for their first National Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
