Senate Concurrent Resolution 596

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE BELMONT HIGH SCHOOL "CARDINALS" BOYS GOLF TEAM AND COACH JASON COKER FOR WINNING THEIR FIRST 2021 MHSAA 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN 15 YEARS.

WHEREAS, Senior Karsten Bryan and the Belmont High School "Cardinals" Boys Golf Team have claimed the MHSAA Class 3A throne; and

WHEREAS, the Cardinals won their first State Championship in 15 years on May 7, 2021, and simultaneously snapped Booneville's streak of five-straight State Titles. Belmont finished 41 strokes ahead of second-place St. Andrew's, while Booneville finished third at 43 strokes back; and

WHEREAS, Senior Karsten Bryan claimed Medalist Honors for the third time in his career, shooting a 2-under 140 over in the two-day tournament, including a 67 on Wednesday. The tournament was held at Hillandale Golf Course in Corinth. "They were just consistent. We played some good practice rounds up there, and we're familiar with the course," Coach Jason Coker said; and

WHEREAS, it's the first title for Belmont since winning back-to-back 2A Crowns in 2005-2006. It also capped a magnificent career for Bryan, who was the Individual Medalist as an eighth grader and as a freshman. Colin Williams and Alec Hogan also finished in the Top 10 for the Cardinals. Coach Coker was happy for all his players, but especially Karsten Bryan, who has meant so much to the program for the past few years; and

WHEREAS, the 2021 Belmont High School "Cardinals" Boys Golf Championship Team Roster: Karsten Bryan, Bruce McClung, Colin Williams, Alec Hogan and Marlin Hutcheson; and Coach Jason Coker; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Belmont High School "Cardinals" Boys Golf Team and Coach Jason Coker for winning their first 2021 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) 3A State Championship in 15 years, and extend to the members, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Jason Coker and Belmont High School Principal Jeff Boren, forwarded to the Tishomingo County Board of Education, and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
