A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST RANKIN "LADY COUGARS" GIRLS SOCCER TEAM AND COACH CARLI LITTLE FOR WINNING THE MHSAA 6A STATE SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on February 5, 2022, the Northwest Rankin High School "Lady Cougars" Girls Soccer Team defeated Clinton High School "Lady Arrows" 2-0 in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 6A State Soccer Championship held at Ridgeland High School; and

     WHEREAS, "In the two seasons prior, we went out in the first round and we felt like we didn't play our best and we didn't come out strong.  The big thing this year was just mental focus and just getting to this game.  We knew we were good enough to get here," said Northwest Rankin Coach Carli Little; and

     WHEREAS, Senior Abbi Hornke waited five years for another chance at a girls soccer State Championship.  The senior was in the seventh grade when Northwest Rankin won its first title in program history in 2017.  Abbi was one of four seniors with a chance to deliver the Lady Cougars their second championship against the Clinton.  Hornke didn't disappoint.  She put Northwest Rankin up 2-0 in the 12th minute with a free-kick from 30-yards out.  "I've hit them all in that range," said Hornke about her goal; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Cougars (22-1-2), the MaxPreps No. 2 ranked team in the country held on for a 2-0 victory against the Lady Arrows (13-6-3) at Ridgeland High School; and

     WHEREAS, the 2021-2022 Lady Cougars Championship Soccer Team Roster:  Katie Sasser, Emerson Bryant, Aly Vancor, Mallory Tapper, KK Morris, Cameron Sistrunk, Anna Ashley, Ashlyn Dodd, Tyler Grace Sims, Emily Dixon, Jayden Newman, Karson Harper, Myla Thortis, Lily Lyle, Kate Gray Nesbit, Sidney Clare Sing, Emery Norsworthy, Emily Welch, Abbi Hornke, Kayliee Roth, Chloe Horton, Parker Morris, Allie Sifford, Anna Claire Sherman, Ava Rogers, Zoey Brown, Madeline Martinez, Katie Hennington, Sara Kate Foreman, Crissi Tenner, Kaylyn Oubre, Rylee Shaw, Amiyah Barnes, Grace Harmon, Emma Alexander, Kinsey Horton, Isabel Smith, Kaylee Ott, Delilah Roberts and Carson Webb; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their team, their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Rankin "Lady Cougars" Girls Soccer Team and Coach Carli Little for winning the MHSAA 6A State Soccer Championship, and extend our best wishes to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Carli Little and Northwest Rankin Principal Benjamin Stein, forwarded to the Rankin County School Board and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
