Senate Concurrent Resolution 570

(As Adopted by Senate)

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE JACKSON PREP "LADY PATRIOTS" GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH MICHAEL MCANALLY FOR WINNING THE 2022 MAIS OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, when the final shot clanged off the side of the backboard, the Jackson Prep girls basketball players embraced each other at half court and wildly celebrated; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Patriots captured the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Overall Girls Basketball Championship with a 37-34 win over two-time defending Champion Leake Academy on March 2, 2022, at Mississippi College.  Coupled with the boys win of the MAIS Overall Title, Prep swept the 2022 basketball programs; and

WHEREAS, Andie Flatgard, a senior guard who is committed to attending Alabama-Huntsville, was one-of-three Patriots scorers in double-figures.  Flatgard, Kennedie Sanders and Julia Stradinger each scored 10 points; and

WHEREAS, Jackson Prep led by six points at the half, but Leake Academy tied the game in the fourth quarter.  The Patriots got enough defensive stops and made enough free throws to capture the win; and

WHEREAS, "We've been dreaming about this since the eighth grade.  Just the opportunity to be here, I really can't even put it into words," said Flatgard; and

WHEREAS, the 2022 Lady Patriots State Championship Team Roster:  Mollie Odom, Kate Ferguson, Margie Frye, Josie Duncan, Miller Jordan, Kennedie Sanders, Olivia Smith, Andie Flatgard, Julia Stradinger, Bryce Fountain, Tayla Wilson, Tyler Reeves, Annie Jicka, Kendal Moore and Madeleine Black; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Jackson Prep "Lady Patriots" Girls Basketball Team and Head Coach Michael McAnally for winning the 2022 MAIS Overall State Championship and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Michael McAnally and Jackson Prep Headmaster Lawrence M. Coco, III, forwarded to the Jackson Prep Board of Trustees and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
