A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE JACKSON PREP "PATRIOTS" BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACH TIM WISE FOR WINNING THE MAIS OVERALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, on March 2, 2022, Jackson Prep "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team captured the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools (MAIS) Boys Basketball Overall State Title with a 43-32 win over Jackson Academy at Mississippi College.  It's the first championship for Jackson Prep since 2012; and

     WHEREAS, the Patriots played smothering defense, holding Jackson Academy to 18 points through the first three quarters.  They also got a boost from a strong outside shooting performance, going 6-of-12 from a 3-point range; and

     WHEREAS, Cam Brent, the son of Jackson State Men's Basketball Coach Wayne Brent, had 11 points, six rebounds and six assists.  Haddon McCleod also scored 11 points; and

     WHEREAS, Jackson Prep boys won the MAIS Overall Title in the previous game, making it a sweep for the school's 2022 basketball programs; and

     WHEREAS, the 2022 "Patriots" State Championship Team Roster:  De'Marion Tyler, Cam Brent, Luke Segrest, Price Perkins, Walker Craddock, Jaylen Bolden, William Walker, EJ Vaughn, Joshua Powe, Cole Rutledge, Wells Jordan, Lampton Moore, Hudson Sushenia, John Camp Wise, Wayne Hsieh, William Laird, Lytle Moore, Kendarrius Smith and Sam Stogner; and

     WHEREAS, Jackson Prep has a long and outstanding history of winning athletic championships and producing athletes who play at the college level.  Boys Basketball Championships were earned in:

1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1981, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2012, 2013 and 2022; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Jackson Prep "Patriots" Boys Basketball Team and Coach Tim Wise for winning the MAIS State Championship, and extend to the team, coaches, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Coach Tim Wise and Jackson Prep Headmaster Lawrence M. Coco, III, forwarded to the Jackson Prep Board of Trustees and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
