Senate Concurrent Resolution 510

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE MISSISSIPPI "BRAVES" BASEBALL TEAM THE AA AFFILIATE OF THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP ATLANTA BRAVES AND MANAGER DAN MEYER FOR WINNING THE DOUBLE-A SOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES AT TRUSTMARK PARK IN PEARL, MISSISSIPPI, THEIR FIRST LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SINCE 2008.

     WHEREAS, Trustmark Park is, once again, the home of champions; and

     WHEREAS, Pitchers Alan Rangel, Brandon White, Jake Higginbotham and Nolan Kingham combined to retire 20 straight batters, and the Mississippi Braves defeated the Montgomery Biscuits 2-1 on September 26, 2021, in the deciding Game 5 of the Double-A South Championship Series; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Braves claimed their second League Championship since moving to Pearl 16 years ago, adding the 2021 Double-A South trophy to the 2008 Southern League trophy; and

     WHEREAS, the Mississippi Braves recorded the best winning percentage in club history (.604) by finishing 67-44 during the regular season.  They won the regular season Double-A South Championship by 8 games over the Biscuits, and then went the limit with them in the Championship Series.  Montgomery won Game 4, 14-2, to force the winner-take-all matchup at Trustmark Park.  The Mississippi Braves' pitching staff made just enough offense stand up; and

     WHEREAS, in the sixth inning, Greyson Jenista hit a solo home run for what turned out to be the game-winning run.  The home run was Jenista's third of the Championship Series and 22nd of the season.  Overall, the Mississippi Braves hit seven home runs during the five-game series.  The 24-year-old Rangel turned in a brilliant start, allowing one run and striking out eight players through six innings.  It was his first postseason start and first outing in 11 days; and

     WHEREAS, the 2021 Mississippi Braves Championship Roster and Staff:  Pitchers:  Troy Bacon, Corbin Clouse, Hayden Deal, Indigo Diaz, Tyler Ferguson, Josh Graham, Jake Higginbotham, Kurt Hoekstra, Odalvi Javier, Nolan Kingham, Sean McLaughlin, Alan Rangel, Jared Shuster, Freddy Tarnok, Victor Vodnik, Brandon White, Matt Withrow and William Woods; Catchers:  Mitch Calandra, Hendrik Clementina, Drew Lugbauer and Carlos Martinez; Infielders:  C.J. Alexander, Jalen Miller, Wendell Rijo, Braden Shewmake and Luke Waddell; Outfielders:  Justin Dean, Trey Harris, Greyson Jenista, Jacob Pearson and Jefrey Ramos; and Coaching Staff:  Dan Meyer, Interim Manager; Nestor Perez, Bench Coach; Einar Diaz, Hitting Coach and Devon Travis, Coach; and

     WHEREAS, we take great pride in recognizing the accomplishments of these new professional baseball players who have brought honor to their team, to their home community and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Mississippi "Braves" Baseball Team the AA affiliate of the World Championship Atlanta Braves and Manager Dan Meyer for winning the Double-A South Championship Series at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi, their first League Championship since 2008, and extend to the players, coaches and front office personnel our best wishes for future success.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be forwarded to Manager Dan Meyer, the Mississippi Braves front office personnel and to the Atlanta Braves home office and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
