AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE MERIDIAN PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT TO TRANSFER CERTAIN PROPERTY TO THE MERIDIAN HOUSING AUTHORITY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  As used in this section:

          (a)  "Housing authority" means the Meridian Housing Authority in the City of Meridian, Mississippi.

          (b)  "School district" means the Meridian Public School District in the City of Meridian, Mississippi.

     (2)  Notwithstanding any provision in Section 37-7-471 or 37-7-477, Mississippi Code of 1972, or other law to the contrary, the school district is authorized and empowered, in its discretion, to transfer certain property, formerly serving as Witherspoon School and more specifically described below, to the housing authority, without a requirement of automatic reverter to the school district if such property shall cease to be used for the purpose for which it is conveyed:

Block 247 of Ragsdale's Survey of the City of Meridian, Mississippi, less and except a parcel 75 feet north and south by 100 feet east and west in the northwest corner of said block.

     (3)  In addition to the authority provided in subsection (2) of this section, the school district is authorized to do the following for the conveyance authorized in this section:

          (a)  Execute any documents; and

          (b)  Do any and all things necessary to carry out the provisions of this section.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
