AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 45-3-41, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PROMOTE COMMUNICATIONS INTEROPERABILITY BETWEEN THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL AND CERTAIN LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 45-3-41, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
45-3-41. (1) Any county or
municipality now or hereafter having a twenty-four * * *-hour law enforcement system is
hereby authorized by an order duly entered upon the minutes of * * * the governing authority thereof to
request the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol to * * *
allow the primary dispatch frequency or talk group channel of the
Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol to be programmed into any county or municipality
radio for the purpose of interoperability between agencies.
(2) The Mississippi Highway
Safety Patrol shall, upon the receipt of such request by any such municipality
or county, * * * allow that county or municipality to program
their radios to receive broadcasts from the radio station or stations
operated by the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol in the county's or municipality's
jurisdiction. * * *
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2022.
