A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. LYNIECE FLEMING UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS A COMMITTEE ASSISTANT FOR THE MISSISSIPPI HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

     WHEREAS, after 33 years of providing dedicated and zealous service to the Mississippi House of Representatives, Ms. Lyniece Fleming will retire from public service as committee assistant on June 30, 2022; and

     WHEREAS, in the fall of 1989, while attending Moore Career College, Ms. Fleming was hired as a session-only receptionist in the Legislative Services Office for the House of Representatives, and after her first session ended in 1990, she was asked to stay on part-time and was later offered a permanent position as a legal secretary in 1992; and

     WHEREAS, in 1995, Ms. Fleming served as a secretary in the first floor legislative steno pool/legislator offices for several House members, and she was later selected to serve as a secretary in the fourth floor office steno pool for chairman legislators; and

     WHEREAS, a stellar employee, in 2010, Ms. Fleming's exceptional performance afforded her the opportunity to be meritoriously promoted to committee assistant, and during her outstanding tenure, she has served as committee assistant for several committees, such as:  Accountability, Transparency and Efficiency, Drug Policy, Enrolled Bills, Executive Contingent Fund, Interstate Corporation, Investigate State Office and Military Affairs; and her consistency in performance has never waivered from the date of her initial hire until her decision to conclude her prestigious legislative career; and

      WHEREAS, Ms. Fleming has served under five Governors, three Speakers of the House, and four Clerks of the House, and has witnessed the evolution of state history unfold in the shape of policy formulated by legislators, future Governors, other statewide elected officials, congressmen and those who have transitioned from legislative careers to municipal leadership, state and federal judiciary membership, as well as statewide offices from Auditor to Governor, as well as national ambassadorships and officeholders; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to acknowledge outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Ms. Fleming, one we are proud to call our own, whose daily presence in the halls of the Capitol will be sorely missed, but whose legacy of selflessness, fairness, hard work, professionalism and overall commitment to improving the individual lives of others and her community and state, has made an indelible mark on the Mississippi Legislature and all those who have been privileged to know and work with her:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the esteemed career and public service of Ms. Lyniece Fleming, congratulate her upon the occasion of her retirement, and extend warmest wishes for continued success in all of her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Lyniece Fleming and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
