House Resolution 47

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WEST HARRISON HIGH SCHOOL HURRICANE CHEERLEADING TEAM UPON WINNING THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE UNIVERSAL CHEERLEADERS ASSOCIATION (UCA) NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL CHEER CHAMPIONSHIP FOR VARSITY CO-ED GAME DAY DIVISION.

WHEREAS, the West Harrison High School Hurricane Cheerleading Team are now two-time national champions after capturing the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National High School Cheer Championship with a spectacular performance at Walt Disney World on February 7, 2022, in the Varsity Co-ed Game Day Division for the second consecutive year; and

WHEREAS, this historic victory cements the West Harrison High School Cheerleading Team as a national cheering powerhouse that has demonstrated growth, exceptional attitude and self-discipline, which becomes evident as a pinnacle of the hard work shown throughout their 2021-2022 cheering season; and

WHEREAS, having competed against seven other teams in the "Large Varsity Co-ed Game Day Division," the Hurricane Cheerleaders scored a 98.8 out of 100 points, the team's highest score ever achieved; and

WHEREAS, the West Harrison High School Cheerleaders were superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Heather Serpas, and Assistant Coach Hannah Jones, who have broadened the knowledge of the squad and refined their skills in precision and execution; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the dynamic cheering coaches of the Hurricane Cheerleaders, the cheering squad has been supported by the administration of West Harrison High School and the entirety of Harrison County's Gulfport community; and

WHEREAS, the West Harrison High School Cheerleaders have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitudes reflect great credit upon the individual cheerleaders, their parents and coaches and brings great honor to West Harrison High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state such as the West Harrison High School Cheerleading Team, who are this great state's promising future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the West Harrison High School Hurricane Cheerleading Team upon winning their second consecutive Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National High School Cheer Championship for the Varsity Co-ed Game Day Division and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Heather Serpas and Principal Dana Trochessett on behalf of West Harrison High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
