A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PEARL RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE "WILDCATS" CHEER SQUAD AND COACH SARAH SMITH FOR WINNING THE UNIVERSAL CHEERLEADERS ASSOCIATION'S ALL-GIRL NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Pearl River Community College "Wildcats" Cheer Squad's hard work and dedication over the past months has come to fruition as the squad reigned supreme and won the Universal Cheerleaders Association's All-Girl National Championship on January 15, 2022, at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, marking it as the first championship in Pearl River's history; and

     WHEREAS, the squad executed, not once but twice, in one of the most high-pressure situations that one can imagine, and as they were relentless in their daily pursuit of perfection, the squad was set apart on the national championship floor; and

     WHEREAS, the Wildcats performed phenomenally in their two appearances, in their first run, the squad qualified for the

finals by scoring 88.7, and in the finals, they competed against the College of New Jersey, Rowan University, Avila University and

Webber International University, and the squad again put in an

incredible performance, scoring an 88.65, which defeated its

closest opponent by five points and awarded the squad the

national championship; and

     WHEREAS, during the awards ceremony, all finalists sit on the

floor and placements are announced from the bottom to the top, and as results are announced, and the squad name still has not been called, the excitement is indescribable, and to hear one's squad's name called last is the goal, and when it happens, the squad goes wild, and the Wildcats earned every bit of the accomplishment they felt in that moment; and

     WHEREAS, the key to the squad's victory was a strong veteran leadership, focused athletes and high standards for all of their skills, and the 2021 Pearl River Community College National

Championship Cheer roster is comprised of the following extraordinary student-athletes:  Arielle Alexander, Tookie Bolton,

Lexi Broom, Kaylee Clavo, Macey Head, Kayla Jordan, Tavia Keys,

Autumn Mallette, Austin Mayfield, Schyler Morgan, Zoe Nastasi,

Hannah Beth Nelson, Madison Nielson, Karli Pilkington, Sidney

Reesor, Karlee Rodriguez, Keelyn Rogers, Malaysia Thomas, Haegan

Tynes and Kacey Wallace; and Head Coach Sarah Smith; and

     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group

of outstanding athletes who have brought honor to Pearl River Community College and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pearl River Community College "Wildcats" Cheer Squad and Head Coach Sarah Smith for winning the Universal Cheerleaders Association's All-Girl National Championship, and extend best wishes for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Sarah Smith, Pearl River Community College President, Dr. Adam Breerwood, and the Pearl River Community College Board of Trustees, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
