House Resolution 15

A RESOLUTION MOURNING THE LOSS AND HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MRS. SHERRY ANN PLUNK ELMORE, AND EXPRESSING DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HER PASSING.

     WHEREAS, it is written in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that "To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, the immaculate author and finisher of our soul's destiny summoned the mortal presence of dearly beloved, Mrs. Sherry Ann Plunk Elmore, to eternal rest, rendering great heartache and loss to her family, friends and community; and

     WHEREAS, born on August 28, 1959, to Mr. Fred and Mrs. Lou V. McGee Plunk, in Savannah, Tennessee, Mrs. Elmore was a graduate of Central High School in Savannah, and Mississippi University for Women, College of Nursing in Columbus, Mississippi, where she earned her associates of nursing degree; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Elmore began her distinguished nursing career of over 40 years with Columbus Hospital and later worked with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle, until joining Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County in New Albany, Mississippi, and she was a caring nurse and especially loved mentoring new nurses, and she served all of her patients with dignity, respect and true compassion; and

     WHEREAS, as she was passionate about her community and always willing to serve others, Mrs. Elmore served as president of the Bel Air Neighborhood Association; and

     WHEREAS, true love struck when Mrs. Elmore met Mr. Steve Elmore, and on September 26, 1981, the couple exchanged the vows of holy matrimony, and they lived in Columbus, until moving to Tupelo, Mississippi, in 2014, to be near their children; and

     WHEREAS, as an amazing wife and mother, who devoted her life to her family, Mrs. Elmore was a very special mother to her two daughters, and she often served as their nurse, teacher, friend and confidant; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Elmore was happiest spending time with her family, and she leaves them with the knowledge that they were truly loved, and she will be remembered as a very kind, loving, and thoughtful person, who will be greatly missed by her family and everyone who knew her; and

     WHEREAS, though she has traversed life's river to now stand upon the celestial shores in wonderment of Heaven's grandeur in reunion with the kindred spirits who transitioned before her, including her parents, Mr. Fred Plunk and Mrs. Lou V. Plunk; brother, Scotty Plunk; and father-in-law, Henry Latham Elmore, Mrs. Elmore's legacy will continue to refresh the hearts and memories of her loved ones, including her husband, Mr. Steve Elmore; daughters, Stephenie Elmore Brady and Alison Elmore Mitchell; grandchildren, Posey Brady, JB Brady and Cal Mitchell; mother-in-law, Doris Allen Elmore; sisters-in-law, Patricia Plunk and Sherry Elmore Weseli; nephews, Jake Weseli and Brody Weseli; nieces, Brooke Weseli Gordon and Crystal Hill; aunt and uncle, Betty and Paul Wallace Plunk; and a host of cousins, great nieces and nephews, other relatives and dear friends; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Elmore will forever be loved, cherished and missed by all who knew her, and since it is written in 2 Corinthians 5:8, that to be "absent from the body is to be present with the Lord," her family and friends can find peace and comfort during this difficult time; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to commend the lives of outstanding Mississippians, especially those such as Mrs. Elmore, whose life's light illuminated the path of hope for all she encountered along this earthly sojourn:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby mourn the loss and honor the life and legacy of Mrs. Sherry Ann Plunk Elmore, and express sincere and deepest sympathy to her family and friends upon her passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mrs. Sherry Ann Plunk Elmore and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
