A RESOLUTION HONORING THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF MR. DENNIS CRAIG GRISHAM AND EXTENDING DEEP SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.
WHEREAS, it is written, "To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven," and as such, Mr. Dennis Craig Grisham's time here on earth has ended as he has transitioned to life eternal; and
WHEREAS, he was born in Ripley, Mississippi, to the joy and happiness of his parents, Leland and Roberta Grisham, on November 28, 1944; and
WHEREAS, after graduating from Ripley High School in 1962, he attended Northeast Mississippi Junior College and the University of Southern Mississippi, and thereafter was driven to serve his country and joined the Marine Corps, from which he was honorably discharged in 1969; and
WHEREAS, he subsequently moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he met the love of his life, Lynda McAlister, who coincidentally was from Ripley, and became an instant father of two boys, Billy and Tommy whom he raised as his own; and
WHEREAS, it was just the four of them until 1972, when Dennis and Lynda were blessed with a little girl named Jill; and
WHEREAS, in 1974, he moved his family back home to Ripley where he started a small construction company that is now known as Grisham Asphalt & Paving Company, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, he captured his dream job at home in Ripley in 1984 when he became a supervisor for Tippah County's 4th District, where he remained by winning nine consecutive elections, during which time he served as the President of the Tippah County Board of Supervisors and President of the Mississippi Association of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Grisham was a man of strong faith, who was a true Christian and active servant at Dumas Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS, to cherish his legacy, he is survived by his wife, Lynda; daughter, Jill; sons, Bill and Tommy; sister, Laura; brother, Kenneth; grandchildren, Colby, Corbin, Ellie, James, Sarah, John Thomas, Nolan, Jud and Sophie; and a host of friends and loved ones; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor the lives of men like Mr. Dennis Craig Grisham, who fought for our country, built wealth for their families and worked as public servants as well as Christian servants:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby honor the life of Mr. Dennis Craig Grisham, and express deep sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Dennis Craig Grisham and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
