A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MISSISSIPPI EXPORT RAILROAD UPON ITS 100TH ANNIVERSARY AND DESIGNATING NOVEMBER 10, 2022, AS MISSISSIPPI EXPORT RAILROAD DAY.

     WHEREAS, Mississippi Export Railroad is celebrating 100 extraordinary years of continued service to the State of Mississippi, a true testament to its outstanding legacy of providing a gateway to reliable distribution service to and from South Mississippi and Alabama; and

     WHEREAS, with its roots tracing back to 1894, on November 10, 1922, Mr. Gregory M. Luce purchased the A&M Railroad, and the Mississippi Export Railroad (MSE) was born, and a family legacy began with the great-great-grandfather of the current president and CEO of Mississippi Export Railroad, Kate Luce; and

     WHEREAS, headquartered in Moss Point, Mississippi, Mississippi Export Railroad is a 42-mile short line railroad extending from Evanston, Mississippi, to Pascagoula, Mississippi, and it is the north-south corridor connecting the Canadian National Railroad and the east-west line of CSX Transportation, and it also connects to the Norfolk Southern in Mobile, Alabama, and Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and Kansas City Southern in Jackson, Mississippi, through haulage agreements, and these connections and their alliances link the Gulf of Mexico to all points on the continent; and

     WHEREAS, Mississippi Export Railroad is a diversified company with a full service maintenance and repair railcar and locomotive shop, railcar storage facilities, track maintenance and repair, transloading terminals and industrial development sites; and

     WHEREAS, dedicated to providing the best personalized customer service, MSE associates are skilled and experienced in offering creative solutions to help businesses prosper; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize outstanding Mississippi companies, especially those such as Mississippi Export Railroad, whose faithful service and outstanding legacy brings honor to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and commend Mississippi Export Railroad upon the occasion of its 100th anniversary, and designate November 10, 2022, as Mississippi Export Railroad Day to honor its 100 years of service to the State of Mississippi.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the President and CEO of the Mississippi Export Railroad, Kate Luce, and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
