A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SIMPSON ACADEMY COUGARS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 5A BOYS BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.
WHEREAS, the Simpson Academy Cougars Boys Basketball Team capped off its remarkable season and reigned supreme to take home the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A Boys Basketball State Championship; and
WHEREAS, although there were several standout individual performances over the course of the season, the championship win was a culmination of hard work and team effort, with every player knowing their role and executing it perfectly; and
WHEREAS, the Cougars' roster consists of the following outstanding student-athletes: Sawyer Dunn, Cameron Larkin, Scott Maddox, Gage Smith, Colin Jenkins, Walker Phillips, Miles Owens,
Travis Cockrell, Chanse Funchess, Parker Jones, Zach Brown, Benjamin Kennedy, Riley Clark, Dawsan Drennan, Bryce Williams,
Tyler Flynt, Dylan Perdomo and Wesley Boyd; and
WHEREAS, the Cougars have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Carey Crain, Assistant Coaches Chaucer Funchess and Brad Smith, Athletic Director Todd Mangum, and trainer, Jonathan Pierce, who have broadened their knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend the superb accomplishments of Mississippi's student-athletes, especially those such as the Simpson Academy Cougars Boys Basketball Team, whose excellence on and off the court brings honor to Simpson Academy, their community and to the State of Mississippi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Simpson Academy Cougars Boys Basketball Team upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 5A Boys Basketball State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Simpson Academy Headmaster Nick Lee, Head Coach Carey Crain, the Simpson Academy Cougars Boys Basketball Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
