House Concurrent Resolution 54

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE RALEIGH HIGH SCHOOL LIONS FOOTBALL TEAM UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 3A SOUTH STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Raleigh High School Lions Football Team wrapped up a historic season outlasting the Tylertown Chiefs in the Class 3A South State Championship; and

WHEREAS, with unshakeable nerve, the eventual 10-2 Lions ended the South State Championship regulation with no score, and prevailed in overtime by a 7-6 score; and

WHEREAS, the Lions South State Championship Team was comprised of the following student-athletes: Jameon Page, Jay Owens, JaBarion Owens, Jay Jones, Suntarine Perkins, Javarious Walker, Kyvryn Moncrief, Cameron Keller, Damond Keyes, Jatavious Ducksworth, Isiah Strickland, Jermaine Keyes, Shamir Horne, Christian Vance, Hayden Bowen, Ja'marion Ulmer, Jacob Bowen, Eli Eason, CJ Moncrief, Rod Heard, Marcus Perkins, Tanner Middleton, Timothy Westbrook, Iman Gavin, Jacob Harris, Jordan Coleman, Matthew Roberts, Jeteric Ellis, Johnny Dinkins, JaShun Boyd, Alex Evans, Clay Craft, Keshaun Carter, Jessie Maas, Connor Adcock, Logan Dearman, Jacob Keys and Braden McKinley; and

WHEREAS, through outstanding leadership and inspiration of Raleigh's Head Coach Ryan Higdon and Assistant Coaches Todd Lowery, Larry Means and Jared Smith, the Lions were ready for every obstacle that came their way with high energy and a great attitude; and

WHEREAS, though the season is over, Coach Higdon has an eye to the future, realizing that Raleigh has become known for the intimidating way the team takes over the football field, and the Lions have much to look forward to; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and honor the achievements of such determined student-athletes as the Raleigh High School Lions Football Team, who have brought honor to their school, their community, and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Raleigh High School Lions Football Team and Head Coach Ryan Higdon for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 3A South State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Ryan Higdon, Raleigh High School and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
