House Concurrent Resolution 43

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SCOTT CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL REBELS FOOTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH JEFF STOCKSTILL FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 2A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Scott Central High School Rebels Football Team and Head Coach Jeff Stockstill have completed an amazing regular season and reigned supreme throughout the playoffs to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Football Championship, the only public school football team in the state with a perfect record this season of 15-0; and

     WHEREAS, the Rebels, who had a remarkable season that was driven by more than just the yearning to succeed, intensely amplified all of their hard work, motivation and audacity, which were so apparent all through the season, for the game that  ultimately separated the men from the boys to dominate Leflore County 72-24 and collect the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A Football Championship; and

     WHEREAS, Sophomore Quarterback Quez Goss ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 350 yards and six touchdowns on his way to being named 2A Offensive Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player; and Head Coach Jeff Stockstill was named 2A Coach of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, named to the First Team Offense were Dee Burks, WR, and Javieon Butler, WR; named to the First Team Defense were Zachariah Parodi, DE, and Michael Patrick, LB; named to the Second Team Defense were Omarion Jackson, LB, and Jhatavious Slack, FS; and Trey Edwards was named Scholar Athlete; and

     WHEREAS, throughout their season of play, the Rebels, who also won titles in 1999 and 2018, faced off with some of the state's best contenders on the gridiron, but persevered to make their presence and talent known as gladiators of football under the Friday night lights; and

     WHEREAS, the Scott Central statistics were impressive, and there were outstanding performances by individual players, but the key to this team's consistent success has been the constant team atmosphere and year-round hard work; and

     WHEREAS, the Rebels and Head Coach Stockstill were aided in their efforts by the exceptional coaching of assistants Marlon Goss, Chandler Powell, Blake Hall, John Brassfield, Tony Johnson and Bryce Randal, and the team played with heart and soul all season, and had a very talented and distinguished roster comprised of the following athletes:  Dee Burks, Devin Burks, Austin Goss, Quez Goss, Lezayveontae Barlow, Zytavius Wash, Javieon Butler, Antreyvious Edwards, Zechariah Parodi, Kadevyan Cager, Patrick Sessums, Jhakyree Slack, Martavious Reed, Jermiah Hicks, Tyquan Bounds, Omarion Jackson, Ethan Stockstill, Kyon Bounds, Jakoby Anderson, Tyler Jenkins, Bryson Norman, Quenell Archer, Michael Patrick, Jhatavious Slack, Kendarious Spivey, Zaharrie Kincaid, Devin Cunningham, Kobe Bobbitt, Jarvez Ficklin, Jmarion Sherbal, Romeo Patrick, Don'novan Phillips, Devon Townsend, Shamon Wash, Malachi Beamon, Trevon Patrick, Dewayne Cox, Justin Stewart, Marquavious Bradford, Ahmarion Ragsdale, Xavier Bobbitt, Hayden Wilkinson, Julian Reed, Nathaniel Hardy, Camdon Crimm, Charles Shepard, De'savion Gray, Ketavion Washington, Kemari Hughes, Jeremiah Lyles, Dylan Sumrall, Shane Burnham, Parker McGee, Frayshun Darby, La'taveone Evans, Tywuan McClendon, Steven Bradford, Brandon Ortiz, Quontravius Williams, Griff Sykes and Ryan Johnson; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize  and honor the achievements of student athletes such as the Scott Central High School Rebels Football Team, who have brought honor to their school, their community, and to the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Scott Central High School Rebels Football Team and Head Coach Jeff Stockstill for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A State Football Championship, and extend best wishes to the team and coaches for continued success in all of their future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Head Coach Jeff Stockstill and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
