House Bill 1765

AN ACT TO RESTORE THE RIGHT OF SUFFRAGE TO STEVEN DWAYNE MOORMAN OF GEORGE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The right of suffrage is hereby fully and completely restored to Steven Dwayne Moorman of George County, Mississippi, who was disqualified as an elector as a result of his conviction for the crimes of one count of first degree arson and two counts of third degree arson on October 25, 1985, in Jackson County, Mississippi, for which he was sentenced to serve twenty (20) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with all sentences to run consecutively.  He was paroled on April 15, 1992.  He was sentenced on September 29, 1994, in George County for one count of burglary of a camp, and one count of arson, for which he was sentenced to serve five (5) years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections, with the five (5) years to run consecutive with his previous sentences in Jackson County.  He was paroled on May 12, 1999.

     He completed all terms and conditions of his sentences and was discharged on September 1, 2002.  The Legislature is informed that he has since conducted himself as a law-abiding and honorable citizen in a good and lawful manner.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2022.
