AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF GULFPORT, MISSISSIPPI, TO FUND A COMMISSION CREATED UNDER SECTIONS 21-27-11 AND 21-27-13, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO CONTROL, MANAGE AND OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  As used in this act:

          (a)  "City" means the City of Gulfport, Mississippi;

          (b)  "Governing authorities" means the mayor and city council of the city;

          (c)  "System" means a motor vehicle transportation system for the transportation of passengers within the boundaries of the city, including the Mississippi Coast Transit Authority and its successors; and

          (d)  "Commission" means a commission created by the governing authorities under Sections 21-27-11 and 21-27-13, Mississippi Code of 1972, to control, manage and operate a system.

     (2)  The governing authorities may, in their discretion, contribute, allocate, pledge, loan or otherwise provide municipal funds or monies to a commission, accompanied with, or by way of express designation for, acceptance and use of funds or other requirements, conditions or restrictions associated with the acceptance and use of such funds, or by way of general provision without any accompanying requirements, conditions or restrictions, regarding acceptance of funds and their use.

     (3)  Such funds contributed, allocated, pledged, loaned or otherwise provided by the governing authorities may be utilized for the design and construction of roads, bridges, transportation corridors and other infrastructure, as well as for operational expenses, the purchase or acquisition of capital resources, property, equipment, materials or supplies, or for any other lawful purpose.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
