House Bill 1143

AN ACT TO PROHIBIT PEACE OFFICERS FROM USING MAXIMAL, PRONE RESTRAINT TECHNIQUES, INCLUDING HOGTYING; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  A peace officer may not use a maximal, prone restraint technique, including, but not limited to, hogtying, on another person in the course of his or her duties as a peace officer.

     (2)  Any policies pertaining to the use of force adopted by law enforcement agencies must be consistent with this section.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2022.
